The most important items in 7 Days to Die fall into five categories: tools, weapons, medicine, resources and crafting stations. This page gives a structured overview of which 7 Days to Die items take priority in which phase of the game, how you obtain them and what you use them for. How the raw materials behind them fit together is explained in the crafting and resources guide; every other page is collected in the 7 Days to Die wiki overview.
Important items in 7 Days to Die by game phase
Early game (days 1–7)
The start revolves around immediately available items with minimal resource cost — crafted from the inventory or looted quickly.

Stone Axe — all-purpose tool for harvesting, building and melee combat. The single most important item of the first hours of play.
Bedroll — sets the respawn point. Always place it before the first night begins.
Campfire — the first crafting station available. Cooks meat and turns murky water into clean drinking water. Requires fuel and the right appliances (Cooking Pot, Grill or Beaker).
Stone Spear — allows attacks at range and reduces the risk of being hit.
Cooking Pot — placed in the campfire, it unlocks cooking recipes for stews and teas — it cannot be crafted, so loot one early.
Mid game (days 8–35)
As soon as a secured base is standing, iron tools and the first firearms take priority. Stone equipment is replaced by better alternatives.

Workbench (from stone)
Forge — the second crafting station after the campfire. Smelts scrap and produces forged iron, forged steel, bullet casings and arrowheads.
Workbench — unlocks weapon and vehicle part recipes that cannot be crafted from the inventory. It runs independently of the player — you can go looting while it works.
Pipe Weapons — cheap, craftable firearms for the transition to tier 2 weaponry. The Pipe Machine Gun is the most versatile of them, since it carries the largest magazine and reloads fastest.
Cobblestone blocks — the first real upgrade step over purely wooden structures in the base.
Late game & endgame (day 35 and beyond)
From this point on, steel tools, high-tier weapons and the Chemistry Station become the standard. Resource consumption — ammunition and medicine in particular — rises considerably with horde difficulty.

Chemistry Station — produces antibiotics, first aid kits, gunpowder and gas cans more efficiently and with fewer resources than other stations. Some recipes are available here only. It requires fuel but has no appliance slots.
Rocket Launcher — specifically suited to dense zombie groups and barricades. Use it sparingly and mind the self-inflicted damage.
Weapon mods — extended mag, drum mag, silencer, reflex sight: they upgrade endgame weapons considerably. Collect them deliberately instead of fitting them at random.
Crafting stations at a glance
The six workstations in 7 Days to Die each cover their own recipe categories. All three fuel-based stations (campfire, forge, chemistry station) stop producing as soon as the fuel is used up — they automatically resume work once refilled. Newly added is the Chicken Coop, introduced by version 3.1 with the Henpocalypse update on 27 July 2026; it does not run on fuel but on feed.

All workstations are unlocked primarily by reading Forge Ahead magazines — not through classic skill points.
Every trader location contains at least one broken version of each workstation. These can be looted and yield at least one Forge Ahead copy.
Your own workstations can be picked up and relocated inside the land claim block with hold E → "Take" — no re-crafting needed.
Instead of fuel, the Chicken Coop consumes Rekt's Chicken Feed made from corn and rotting flesh. Its three tool slots speed up production (Brooding Lamp), cut feed consumption by 50% (Chicken Run) or unlock breeding (Nesting Box).

Nitrate powder — the basis for gunpowder. Mine it early and consistently, because consumption in the mid game quickly outstrips your stock. It is found in caves and desert biomes.
Scrap polymers — not craftable. Needed for almost every weapon and tool recipe. Obtainable only through looting and scrapping.
Acid (bottle) — not craftable. A mandatory component of the Chemistry Station. Loot it from chemical barrels or buy it from the trader.
Beaker — not craftable. Indispensable for medicine recipes at the campfire and as a component of the Chemistry Station. Found in medicine cabinets, Pop-N-Pills stores and hospitals.
Components
Mechanical parts — vehicles, tools (auger). Harvest them with the wrench from shopping carts, motorcycles and machinery.
Electrical parts — advanced traps and turrets. From electronics cabinets and appliances.
Duct tape — for tools and workbench recipes. In household crates and hardware stores.

Looting / Chemistry Station
Antibiotics can be crafted both at the campfire (with a beaker) and at the Chemistry Station — the latter produces them faster and with fewer resources.
A First Aid Kit is the strongest craftable healing item and should be stocked in sufficient quantity before every blood moon horde.
