7 Days to Die Crossplay: PC, PS5 and Xbox
7 Days to Die Crossplay works between PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — but only under conditions that many groups overlook on their first attempt. This page sums up which platforms play together, what the server has to meet for it, and where the limits are.
⚠️ Status of this information
Verified in August 2026 for version V3.1. The requirements for crossplay servers have changed several times between major versions — with larger updates it pays to take another look.
Which platforms play together
| Platform | Crossplay |
|---|---|
| PC (Steam) | ✅ |
| PlayStation 5 | ✅ |
| Xbox Series X|S | ✅ |
| PlayStation 4 | ❌ not supported |
| Xbox One | ❌ not supported |
The three supported platforms play together in the same world, on the same server, at the same time. Anyone still playing on a previous-generation console is left out — and no update will change that, since the old editions are maintained separately.
Save games do not travel with you
This is the restriction that causes disappointment most often: crossplay is not cross-progression. A character played on the PS5 cannot be continued on Xbox or PC. You play together on one server, but the progress is tied to the respective platform.
For groups that means: anyone who wants to play across platforms agrees on one server and stays there. Switching your own device means a new character.
What the server has to meet
This is where the actual stumbling block lies. A server only accepts console players if all five conditions are met at the same time:
| Requirement | Value |
|---|---|
| Modifications | none — the server has to run unmodified |
| EAC (anti-cheat) | switched on |
| ServerVisibility | 2 (public) |
| Network protocol | LiteNetLib enabled |
| Player count | limited to 8 |
If one of them is missing, the server simply does not show up on the consoles — with no error message naming the reason. Anyone searching and finding nothing should work through this list from top to bottom.
How to set up your own server in general is described on the page about the dedicated server.
Crossplay or mods — you cannot have both
The "no modifications" condition is not a formality but a genuine fork in the road. As soon as a single modlet sits on the server, crossplay is over. Conversely, a crossplay server means an unmodified gameplay experience for everyone.
For groups that have played with mods so far, that is the real decision — not the question of whether crossplay works technically. Anyone who wants to know what is at stake will find the basics under installing and managing mods and in the overview of mod types.
What this means in practice
The 8-player limit and doing without mods make crossplay a solution for one particular case: circles of friends who sit on different devices and want to play together without anyone buying new hardware. That is exactly what it is meant for, and for that it works well.
For groups who are all on PC anyway, crossplay is a step backwards: they lose mods and player slots without getting anything in return. In that case the effort is not worth it.
The experience of the past few years suggests that the platforms are moving closer together. With V2.6 in April 2026, a stable update appeared on all three platforms on the same day for the first time — before that the consoles regularly lagged behind by weeks. For mixed groups that matters more than it sounds at first: as soon as the versions drift apart, the shared server stands still.
Anyone currently running an experimental build should keep that in mind — it runs on PC only. For the state of the versions see the articles on V3.2 and on the stable release of 2.6.
