Enshrouded Resources: Getting Every Material
Anyone looking for Enshrouded resources quickly runs into a pattern: almost every material can be assigned to one of five ways of obtaining it. This page sorts the most important materials by how you get hold of them — mining, gathering, looting, recovering them in the Shroud or making them yourself. That is more practical while searching than a pure location list, because deposits shift across updates while the way of obtaining them stays the same.
⚠️ Status of the information
This overview reflects the state of August 2026 and is based on German-language sources from the Early Access phase. The regions Albaneve Summits and Veilwater Basin were added later and are not covered here yet. For the 1.0 release on 15 October 2026, deposits and recipes may change — the page will be reworked afterwards.
Ores and rock: what you mine with the pickaxe
Ores almost always sit on large rock formations or in caves, frequently inside the Shroud. The Flame Altar often has to have reached a certain level for this, because otherwise the regions cannot be reached sensibly.
| Material | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Dirt | everywhere | Dig into the ground, the topmost layers give large amounts |
| Stone | everywhere | Lies on the ground; digging is faster — after the soil layers comes stone |
| Flint | caves, rock faces | Mine it with the pickaxe |
| Clay lumps | starting region, Revelwood | Large deposits near Hohenwarte, south of Irrwurzburg, near Rabenblick Bergfried |
| Amber | Shroud of Revelwood | Orange-colored, on large rock formations |
| Copper ore | Revelwood | Mountainside at the Schreinerlager, plus a cave system at the Shroud Root |
| Tin ore | Shroud of the Kindlewastes, Nomad Highlands | Large shiny rectangles on rock formations |
| Iron ore | Nomad Highlands | Kuppen mine in the southeast of the region |
The locations are examples, not a final list. Most materials occur in several places — anyone searching a region thoroughly usually finds their own deposits.
Gathering without tools: wood, fibers and finds
| Material | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Twigs | small trees, bushes | Drop when you destroy them |
| Wood logs | large trees | Also at campfires in ruins and abandoned camps |
| Resin | thin trees, brown foliage | Trees with autumn coloring give the most |
| Plant fiber | bushes and grasses | The basis for string |
| Honey, wax | beehives on large trees | Shoot them from a distance — some are guarded |
| Fireflies | outdoors at night | Swarms of glowing dots |
| Bones | dead animals, skeletons | Smash the skeletons lying on the ground |
| Water | wells in abandoned camps | Lower the bucket |
From enemies and out of chests: what you loot
| Material | Source |
|---|---|
| Metal scraps | enemies inside and outside the Shroud, chests |
| Cloth scraps | enemies all over the world |
| Animal fur | wolves, rabbits, goats |
| Shroud spores | Shroud enemies, recognizable by blue-discolored body parts |
| Spawnling legs (Brutlingsbeine) | the small blue creatures in the Shroud |
In the Shroud: materials under time pressure
A clock runs inside the Shroud — your time window is limited, and the way back has to be planned in. In return, materials lie there that exist nowhere else.
| Material | Where | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Shroud liquid | large beige giant mushrooms | The small mushrooms around them are enough to walk past |
| Shroud wood | trees in the Shroud | A normal axe, but keep an eye on the time window |
| Ammonia gland, Shroud sack | red mushrooms in the Shroud of the Kindlewastes | The counterpart to the friendly green mushrooms |
| Sparks | spark altars all over the world | Marked on the map with a flame, needed for the Flame Altar level |
Making it yourself: what the five survivors unlock
A large part of the materials cannot be found, only produced. For that you need the survivors — blacksmith, farmer, alchemist, hunter and cobbler — who each bring their own recipes and stations.
| Material | Station | Ingredients |
|---|---|---|
| Charcoal | charcoal kiln (blacksmith) | Dirt and wood logs, 15 pieces in five minutes |
| Wood acid | after the first charcoal burn | Wood logs and dirt |
| Tar | after the first charcoal burn | Dirt and wood logs |
| String | crafting menu | 3 plant fibers |
| Metal sheets | forge | Charcoal and metal scraps |
| Bone meal | grindstone (alchemist) | Bones |
| Insect dust | alchemist | Spawnling legs |
| Slime | alchemist | Only available after the mortar mission |
| Shroud soul | alchemist | 10 Shroud spores and 10 Shroud liquid |
The charcoal kiln is the most important single step here: it is unlocked at the blacksmith after the mission "Find the Sleeping Survivor" and, with charcoal, wood acid and tar, opens up three materials at once.
What this means in practice
Sorting by way of obtaining makes one thing visible that a pure location list hides: the bottleneck is rarely the searching but the unlocking. Charcoal, tar, wood acid, slime and bone meal are not rare — they are simply locked until the matching station is standing. Anyone who invests early in the survivor missions saves themselves long gathering runs later.
The reverse applies to the ores: they hang on the region, and the region hangs on the Flame Altar level. Tin and iron are not hard to find once you have reached the Kindlewastes and the Nomad Highlands — and practically unreachable as long as you have not. Anyone stuck on tin usually has a progression problem, not a search problem.
For co-op groups, splitting up along these tables suggests itself: one person goes into the Shroud and fetches liquid, spores and wood, while the other collects dirt, stone and wood logs above ground for the charcoal kiln. The time windows in the Shroud are the real bottleneck, everything else can be done on the side.
How this shifts with the 1.0 release on 15 October 2026 remains to be seen — the major updates so far have regularly added new regions and with them new materials, most recently with the biggest update yet. Anyone who wants to take care of the base first finds the basics in the article on base building in Enshrouded.
