Creating a Custom Livery in Le Mans Ultimate

Requirements

Before you start, the following things have to be in place:

  • You are a member of a team in LMU (or create one). Only the team owner can upload and assign liveries.
  • To drive a custom livery in online races you need a RaceControl Pro or Pro+ subscription – unless you take part in a team endurance race in which the team owner already has a Pro subscription.
  • Custom liveries currently only work in online races (not in single player).

Step 1 – Download the template

You find the livery templates directly in the game folder under: ...\steamapps\common\Le Mans Ultimate\Support\LiveryTemplates Le Mans Ultimate

The fastest way there is via Steam: right click on LMU → Properties → Installed Files → Browse.

Available templates: all Hypercars, LMGT3, GTE and the ORECA LMP2 chassis.

Step 2 – Design the livery

Load the template into an image editing program of your choice (e.g. Photoshop or GIMP) that supports layers. OverTake.gg

The following layers/groups must NOT be changed:

  • Number plates (positioning)
  • Levels layer
  • Carbon-colored areas

You create two separate files:

  • customskin → the actual design (colors, logos, etc.)
  • customskin_region → defines the materials (matte, glossy, carbon, etc.)

Step 3 – Export

Before exporting, disable the Mask layer and make sure the Levels layer is visible. Save both files as TGA, uncompressed. Le Mans Ultimate

File names:

  • customskin.tga
  • customskin_region.tga

Step 4 – Put the files in the right folder

The two TGA files have to be placed in the following path: steamapps\common\Le Mans Ultimate\UserData\Liveries Race Control

Step 5 – Load in the showroom & upload

  1. In the game: Teams → select your team → Liveries → Custom Liveries
  2. Select the correct team at the top right via the dropdown
  3. Click Apply to a New Car → select a car → the showroom opens
  4. Click RELOAD in the showroom – the livery is loaded onto the car
  5. Adjust the material settings in the showroom as you like
  6. If everything fits: click UPLOAD → the livery is submitted for review
  7. Select the lineup(s) the livery should be available for

Controls in the showroom: left click = rotate, right click = pan

Notes

  • Custom liveries are not transferred on servers that are not pre-registered (e.g. practice servers or hosted servers). Race Control
  • Anyone who does not want to create their own livery can download finished liveries from the community (e.g. on overtake.gg) and simply put the TGA files into the Liveries folder.
