Survival Games Crossplay: Which Titles Run Across Platforms

Anyone playing in a mixed group — one person on PC, one on PS5, one on Xbox — asks the same question before buying. Survival games crossplay is not a yes or no, but a matrix: some titles connect every platform, some only two camps, some nothing at all. This page collects the current state for the titles that come up here regularly.

⚠️ As of 1 September 2026

Crossplay details change with every major update and with every console launch. For titles that are still ahead of their release, what is confirmed and what is not is noted explicitly.

Crossplay does not mean the character travels with you

This is the most common misunderstanding, and it applies to every title in the table: playing together and taking your own progress along are two different things. Not a single one of the listed titles offers true cross-progression.

In practice that means a character who grew up on PC does not show up on PS5. Anyone switching devices starts over. For fixed groups this is less painful than it sounds, because the shared world sits on the server and does not hang on the individual character — with Valheim across four platforms it is exactly the same as with the others. But anyone who wants to move between the living room and the desk should know it beforehand.

The server first, then the group

With some titles crossplay is not simply on or off, but depends on the server configuration. The clearest example is 7 Days to Die, where the server has to meet four conditions at once: no mods, anti-cheat switched on, public visibility, LiteNetLib as the network protocol — and a cap of eight players. If one of them is missing, the server does not even appear on the consoles, without any note anywhere about the reason.

Valheim makes this easier: no mod bans, no mandatory anti-cheat, no hard player cap. Anyone setting up a server there invites PC and console players together without working through a list.

Two camps instead of one world: the Satisfactory case

Satisfactory is the title where the table can mislead you the most if you only look at the first two columns. Within the camps everything works: Steam and Epic together, Xbox and PS5 together. Across the border nothing works, and a date for a bridge has not been announced.

The reason is technical: multiplayer runs through the Epic Online Services backend. To connect PC and console, Coffee Stain would have to build its own multiplayer server by its own account — a project that can take years. The studio has not ruled it out, but it has explicitly not placed it high on the list.

Where nothing works at all, and why

Two cases in the table are not a crossplay question but a platform question.

Sons of the Forest is still released exclusively on PC. Where there is no second platform, nothing can be connected either. Endnight has repeatedly shown itself open to it, but there are no concrete plans.

Enshrouded is about to leave that state: the PS5 version arrives on 15 October 2026, the Xbox version follows in spring 2027. Whether PC and PS5 will be able to play together afterwards is something Keen Games has not said to this day. That is not a refusal, but it is not a promise either — anyone counting on it is planning on a hunch.

Check before buying who in your group plays on what

The useful order is not "which game do I want" but "which devices are sitting around at our place". If one person is on PlayStation and everyone else is on PC, Sons of the Forest and Satisfactory drop out immediately — not because they are worse, but because the group would stay split for good.

For mixed groups, Palworld and 7 Days to Die are currently the safest bets, because all three relevant platforms come together there. Valheim joins them from 9 September and brings the widest reach with four platforms.

With the 🔄 entries it pays not to wait for the launch day but for the first week. Shipping new platforms and a major update at the same time is an ambitious plan — and a grown world is a bad place to test it. A backup belongs in place before major updates anyway.
